Skate at Somerset House returns this winter, turning the 18th-century courtyard into an open-air ice rink set beneath a 40ft Christmas tree.
The rink welcomes skaters of all ages and abilities, from first-timers to confident young skaters. Weekend Skate School and a dedicated Kids’ Club for ages 6 to 12 help little ones build confidence on the ice, and skate aids are available for children who need extra support. Relaxed sessions offer a calmer setting with reduced capacity and lower music, and wheelchair users are welcome at all sessions. Afterwards, warm up with hot chocolate and alpine-inspired dishes in the courtyard.
Just across Waterloo Bridge from Sea Containers London, Somerset House makes an easy festive outing. Pair an afternoon on the ice with an overnight stay for a Christmas family break by the river.
